Introduction from the organizer

Dear friends and colleagues,

It was our great pleasure to announce the Regional Business Process and Knowledge Management Conference, which took place in Sarajevo, in hotel Holiday Inn from 9th-10th June 2009 under the auspices of The  Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Business Management Institute. The organisers were The School of Economics and Business Sarajevo, Faculty of Electrical Engineering Sarajevo and Infodom (founder of the Conference).  The motto of the Conference was "Competitiveness through innovation and business process management."

The goals of this year's conference were:
  • Affirmation of knowledge about the Knowledge Based Economy advantages – exchange of the newest information, theory and practical experiences in a field of business processes and knowledge management
  • Accelerate implementation of "business process" and "knowledge management" methods based on creating values for customers
  • Focus on the key questions about competiveness and strategic management that managers both in a private and public sector are dealing with
Leading local and foreign experts from private and public sectors and higher education sector presented their newest knowledge and acquired experiences from a field of business process and knowledge management.

The permanent focus of the Conference included themes and issues such as:
 
  • Modernization and continuous improvement of business performances
  • How to increase competition of your products and services using innovation?
  • Acceleration of business processes, cost reduction, commercialization of innovation, development of organizational knowledge and constant learning of employees
  • Strategic repositioning under the influences of external and internal factors and transformation of business models
  • ICT as a strong lever for success in the Knowledge Based Economy (with innovation and new knowledge of employees)
 Further development in the region, especially in Bosnia and Herzegovina imposed themes such as: 
  • BPM and contemporary knowledge and technology can help Bosnia and Herzegovina accelerate its business modernization and thus shorten a path towards development that other developed countries underwent
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina as a multicultural society with a large number of people educated abroad makes it a very important European producer of contents.
  • In anticipation of a flexible strategic repositioning of Bosnia and Herzegovina under various influences, knowledge, methods and tools for strategic management represent one of the most important social capacities.  
  • Knowledge for BPM & KM and strategic management need to provide clear effects on three levels: society, companies and institutions and on an individual level.
